New Words to an Old Song (Bingo personalized)

on June 17, 2014

This weeks Daily Challenge was To the Tune of…a challenge to create new lyrics to an existing song. It’s funny because I do that often with my girls. This one is an old kids song made new. My girls love it when I do this so I thought I’d share this one, for the people with kids around. 🙂

The song is B*I*N*G*O

Here are the traditional lyrics:

There was a farmer had a dog and Bingo was his name O
B*I*N*G*O, B*I*N*G*O, B*I*N*G*O and Bingo was his name O

There was a farmer had a dog and Bingo was his name O
(clap)*I*N*G*O, (clap)*I*N*G*O, (clap)*I*N*G*O and Bingo was his name O

You clap leaving out the first letter, then the second letter, then the third, etcetera until you are only clapping.

Well, here is how I changed that traditional kids song to make it even better for my girls.
Nothing fancy I just personalized it a bit…

My lyrics:

There is a mom who has a girl and Nora is her name O Nora ivory
N*O*R*A, N*O*R*A, N*O*R*A and Nora is her name O

Then we’d clap leaving out the first letter…

There is a mom who has a girl and Nora is her name O
(clap)*O*R*A, (clap)*O*R*A, (clap)*O*R*A and Nora is her name O

There is a mom who has a girl and Nora is her name O
(clap)*(clap)*R*A, (clap)*(clap)*R*A, (clap)*(clap)*R*A and Nora is her name O

There is a mom who has a girl and Nora is her name O
(clap)*(clap)*(clap)*A, (clap)*(clap)*(clap)*A,(clap)*(clap)*(clap)*A and Nora is her name O

There is a mom who has a girl and Nora is her name O
(Clap)*(clap)*(clap)*(clap), (Clap)*(clap)*(clap)*(clap), (Clap)*(clap)*(clap)*(clap) and Nora is her name O…

She loves it!

We sing it to her little sister too…                                                                       sisters ivory

There is a girl who has a sister and Audrey is her name O
A*U*D*R*E*Y, A*U*D*R*E*Y, A*U*D*R*E*Y and Audrey is her name O

There is a girl who has a sister and Audrey is her name O
(clap)*U*D*R*E*Y, (clap)*U*D*R*E*Y, (clap)*U*D*R*E*Y and Audrey is her name O

There is a girl who has a sister and Audrey is her name O
(clap)*(clap)* D*R*E*Y, (clap)*(clap)* D*R*E*Y, (clap)*(clap)* D*R*E*Y and Audrey is her name O

You get the point. 🙂

We also sing to our friends…                                                                                 friends ivory

There are some girls who have a friend and Spencer is his name O
S*P*E*N*C*E*R, S*P*E*N*C*E*R, S*P*E*N*C*E*R and Spencer is his name O

There are some girls who have a friend and Spencer is his name O
(clap)*P*E*N*C*E*R, (clap)*P*E*N*C*E*R, (clap)*P*E*N*C*E*R and Spencer is his name O,

Etcetera.

We sing about our pet.

There are two girls who have a dog and Lacy is her name O                     Lacy ivory
L*A*C*Y*, L*A*C*Y*, L*A*C*Y and Lacy is her name O

There are two girls who have a pet and Lacy is her name O
(clap)*A*C*Y, (clap)*A*C*Y, (clap)*A*C*Y and Lacy is her name O

and so on.

The words can be changed to:

“There is a (dad, mom, grandma, grandpa, aunt, uncle, sister, brother, friend, teacher…) who has a (sister, brother, friend, cat, dog, fish….) and (fill in name) is their name O”.

You just drag out the letters if there are less than ‘Bingo’ or speed up putting two letters per beat if there are more than ‘Bingo’. It’s easy to figure out.

The possibilities are endless 🙂

  4. My girls get the biggest kick out of changing up the lyrics and personalizing their favorite nursery rhymes. We did it A LOT during potty training 😛

Yes, I was sure it isn’t an original idea, but I hadn’t heard about doing it and thought that those who hadn’t either could use the tip! I bet it would be helpful for potty training. We do it when we read books too. We change the characters to the girls names. 🙂 they love anything that includes them!

Thoughts?? :)
